MGAA Youth is where young people discover great cattle, good mates and real skills. Whether you’re new to the yards or keen to take your showing and judging to the next level, Murray Greys are a brilliant place to start—quiet to handle, adaptable and rewarding to work with.

Who it’s for
- School-aged through early-career young people interested in beef and agriculture
- Students exploring ag pathways (Ag/Hort, VET, TAFE, uni)
- Young handlers, junior judges and future breeders
You don’t need to own cattle to get involved—many activities offer loan animals through local members (subject to availability).
What you’ll do
- Handling & husbandry clinics – halter work, feeding, grooming, structure, welfare basics
- Junior judging & parading – learn to assess cattle, present with confidence, get constructive feedback
- On-farm days & study tours – see how leading Murray Grey studs and commercial herds operate
- Team show experiences – prep days, ringside mentoring, responsibility and teamwork
- Leadership & careers – meet producers, agents, processors and uni/TAFE reps; build a CV that counts

Safety, Welfare & Conduct
MGAA Youth follows a simple code everyone can get behind:
- Respect people, animals and property
- Fit-for-purpose PPE (enclosed boots, long pants; helmets where required)
- Animal welfare first – no tolerance for rough handling
- Biosecurity aware – clean gear, disclose recent animal movements
- Adult supervision at all activities
Parents, guardians and schools receive risk management info and consent forms ahead of events.

Do I need my own Murray Grey?
No. Loan cattle are often available via local members for clinics and some shows (numbers limited).
Can schools get involved?
Yes. We run school-friendly days and can align with curriculum or show team goals.
